$14 Million Verdict in Wrongful Death Suit of Four Year Old

Cal-West, a California health club was found liable for the drowning death of a four year old boy. Cal-West and ten other defendants were assessed $14 million in damages.

The wrongful death suit alleged the health club was negligent in its operation of a children’s camp at the club. In addition, the club was operating without a license.

The boy drowned at the club on the first day of summer camp in 2005. The $14 million covered compensatory damages and punitive damages.
