L.A. County Settles For $3 Million in Emergency Room Wrongful Death Suit

Los Angeles County agreed to a settlement in the wrongful death suit of a Los Angeles woman who died in the emergency room at Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital. The settlement is in the amount of $3 million.

The lawsuit alleged that hospital employees negligently discharged the woman, who was in the emergency room complaining of agonizing pain. Although the woman was discharged, she returned to the emergency room several hours later.

Surveillance camera footage showed hospital employees dismissing her condition, as the woman flailed around on the ground in pain. Moreover, the suit alleged that while this was transpiring others waiting in the emergency room frantically called 911 for assistance.

The woman ultimately died from a perforated bowel.
